A creative industries quarter, not an advertising campus

CIQ – Creative Industries Quarter

Location: Qingdao, China
Client: QingdaoVanke China

Program:
24 ha, Masterplan for a creative industry quarter and residential area

Advertising is part of an ecosystem of creative industries that includes film and television, visual and performing arts, music, media, publishing, fashion, architecture and design. These businesses tend to be clustered and found in areas of cities known as ‘creative industries quarters’. In our experience the most successful creative quarters around the world are vibrant mixed use areas with a fine urban grain and a human scale.

Our masterplan is structured by public open spaces of various sizes and characters providing ample situations for interaction between the creative communities. The buildings follow simple, but affordable and adaptable typologies: a larger warehouse type and a business terrace that can be subdivided into individual units. Performance and exhibition venues are seamlessly embedded into the fine grain. There is no strong boundary between workspaces and residential neighbourhood.
