A place for creative companies at the outskirts of Shanghai

Fei Cui Cultural Quarter

Location: Shanghai, China
Client: Shanghai Vanke China

Programme:
70.000m², seven  six-storey office loft buildings and 15 three-storey office villas

The Fei Cui Cultural Quarter at the southern edge of the metropolitan area of Shanghai wants to offer convenient quality office space to creative and cultural businesses. Two distinctively different typologies – a loft type ware house and a villa type building characterize the development.

With only two typologies used, one of the challenges was how to create variety while not giving up the coherence of the whole. This was solved two different ways. The lofts were equipped with external sun shade panels that – across the entire waterfront change in colour to form a gradient. The villa was designed in such a way that the buildings can be turned in all directions so that each façade when facing the street delivers a different image.

Stages:
2012 Concept,
2013 Construction
