The world in one place

Crystal Globe Entertainment Park

Location: Shanghai, China
Client: Confidential

Program:
13 ha Masterplan for a weekend and shopping destination including 40.000m² culture, 50.000m² F&B, retail and leisure, 20.000m² holiday apartments and 20.000m² public facilities

MLA+ was asked to conceptualize a destination development opposite Shanghai’s Disneyland.

The proposal is not competing, but complementing its international neighbour using the high visibility and excellent accessibility of the site. Crystal Globe Park is a commercial and leisure destination. It’s districts have differing identities following the character of world continents. The building mass is concentrated in the urbanized circular centre of the site.

The urban mass is surrounded by an area with a stronger landscape character. “Asia” is an integrated and highly animated urban complex, while the block structure of the European District offers a fine grain fabric with smaller commercial units. Africa and Australia have a more informal village style character.

The program of Crystal Globe Park complements the complete entertainment uses of Disneyland. It includes alternative commercial concepts such as boutique accommodation, creative food and beverage, cross-boundary business combinations, festivals and cultural events.
