Planning a new city

Jianshan Landscape City

Location: Haining, China
Client: Beijing ABP

Programme:
42 km2 Overall land use plan and vision. 1511ha detailed design, including residential area (532ha), CBD (154ha), headquarter area (428ha) and a design for the central park (398ha).

Jianshan Landscape City is a new type of city: High density, sustainable and liveable. Drawing on the quality of the landscape assets in its context and the water network on the site, the city is structured around large scale connections to the landscape.

Water courses are integrated into a new continuous network of parks and gardens generating quality addresses and visual and physical access to the landscape for all. The built fabric of the city is made up of different characters of mixed use area – CBD, residential area and the headquarters area – each with its own centre, these are connected together with a double loop of urban boulevards to form a string of pearls.

The new city has a strategy for growth – a public transport system and a framework for expansion eastward. Ensuring sustainable growth into the future.

Stages:
