Making a place for living in the industrial belt
Ryazanskiy Prospekt 2
Location: Moscow, Russia
Client: PSN Group
Program: Masterplan study for the redevelopment of an industrial site into a residential neighbourhood
The industrial site at Ryazanskiy prospect will be transformed into a new residential neighbourhood that will greatly profit from the newly planned metro station at its north-western corner. The masterplan proposed responds to the location and its constraints and the program equally. Small apartments are located in a high and long buildings, lining the western edge of the site. Behind it, blocks housing the bigger family apartments are offering a typology that allows for the creation of protected outdoor play spaces for kids. Some of the existing industrial buildings are to be kept to become cultural facilities or places where events can happen.
Next to the distribution of buildings, the open spaces and the qualities they can have played an important role in the layout of the masterplan. Depending on the location they either have park or square like character, they are green street or green link.
Schools, kindergardens and other public uses are integrated in the layout, making use of the quality of the open spaces while being urban activators in their own right.
