Demonstrating what a low carbon future can look like
Pingdi Low Carbon Campus
Location: Shenzhen, China
Client: Shenzhen IBR, District Government of Pingdi
Programme: 710 ha sustainable landscape design around the exhibition centre of the Pingdi Low Carbon Campus, a showcase of low carbon technologies at the shores of re-naturized river. Focus on biodiversity, phytoremediation and sustainable tree planting.
The city of Shenzhen is planning to transform Pingdi District into an exemplar low carbon development. With the understanding that such a transformation will not be completed in a short period of time, IBR supported by MLA+ proposed a continuous exhibition programme that showcases the transformation process over its lifespan. The heart of this exhibition is Pingdi Low Carbon Campus, a exhibition center with surrounding landscape park at the shores of a re-naturized river. The exhibition centre will be the focal point of exhibition activities and starting point of tours into the wider district.
The sustainable landscape design around the exhibition centre focusses on biodiversity along the water’s edge, phytoremediation and sustainable tree planting. It is in itself an exhibit of how open spaces in urbanised areas can contribute to low carbon development and lifestyles.
