Revitialising a river = revitalising the city
Okhta river valley
Location: St. Petersburg, Russia
Client: Administration of Krasnogvardeysky district, St.Petersburg
Program: Urban strategy for regeneration and development of a 700 ha area along Okhta river
St.Petersburg has rich network of small urban rivers. Each of these rivers has potential to become a core for new development. Industrial history, remnants of past and unique natural settings give these areas a potential to become lively mixed-use neighborhoods.
Our urban strategy shows how to preserve given complexity, work with existing values and connect and activate hidden jewels.
Our plan create a framework for the regeneration of Okhta river with connected green routes and it introduces new, denser street grid. We defined several special districts along the river, each of them should receive special attention to preserve diversity.
