A mix of scales
Ilmenskiy Seliger City
Location: Moscow, RU
Client: MR-Group
Programme: 335,000 m² residential neighbourhood including kindergarten, primary school and ground floor commercial units
The design process for the Ilmenskiy Seliger City neighbourhood off one of the boulevards into central Moscow circulated around the classical question that has been guiding the development of residential neighbourhoods in Russian cities since 70 years:
- How can we combine high density with an animated living environment that provides amenities and places of calm in a busy city like Moscow?
- How can we link both – a human scale envrionment and the urban scale of a megacity?
For Ilmenskiy Seliger City we have answered that question with a layout that establishes a green oasis enclosed by both, small to medium scale buildings and high-rise towers. The the articulation of the facades with more detail and programmatic mix around ground floor zones together with lush green creates human centered environment with a large variety of places. The high-rise buildings, above all the H-shaped gateway towers mark the area in the wider urban fabric.
