Bridge to Polaris
Optics Valley Ecological Bridge
Location: Wuhan, China
Client: WISDRI
Programme: 800m long cycling, walking and ecological bridge
Wuhan Optics Valley has the highest concentration of universities and research Institutes in China. It is the birthplace of China’s optical fiber. The crossing of the district’s central eco corridor and the main metro line will mark an important “Golden Corner” of the Optics Valley. Here local citizens will start their trip to the ecological parklands or visitor will come to get an overview of Optics Valley. Function and form of the Optics Valley Eco Bridge go beyond simple solutions. Overcoming the vast spans at this key crossroad, we designed a striking landmark that links the surrounding landscape and offers a memorable walking experience.
The elliptical bridge conveniently connects all metro exits with the four park areas. The floating bridge and canopy, together with its steel cable structure create a highly visible, yet lightweight landmark. At night the bridge comes to life as symbolic “polar star”, reminding us of the leading importance of Wuhan Optics Valley in the technological innovation of China.
