ZOHO with a twist
ZOHO
Location: Rotterdam, the Netherlands
Client: MLA+
Program: Ca 2 hectares of residential, offices and commercial functions
ZOHO is known as the Rotterdam Makers District. In recent years, this area has turned into a pleasant living and workplace on the edge of the city centre, a 5-minute walk from the Central Station. The place has been developed from a bottom-up strategy and created for and by makers in design, art, culture, media, tech, food, architecture and urban planning.
Now that the economy is improving and the need for housing in the centre of Rotterdam is high, there are opportunities to transform this area into a vibrant and urban mixed use area.
MaccreanorLavington: MLA +, established in the area since 1999, is designing a business case for the further development of the area in co-creation with stakeholders, makers, creatives and residents. This requires innovations in various areas: demand-oriented building with direct involvement of the end user, financing of the area development, making the existing stock more sustainable, reusing existing property and realizing a future-proof neighborhood with a strong new identity.
