MLA+ designed Xiangmi Park Library and Tea House are about to open on July 20th

Xiangmi Park in Shenzhen will open its doors on July 20th.

After 3 years of designing and building Xiangmi Park in Shenzhen is about to open its doors to the public. The opening is scheduled for July 20th with a celebration including high government officials.

Established in the early days of Shenzhen as an agricultural research center, Xiangmi Park has been transformed into a recreational zone – a real green park for the local and wider community of the growing metropolis Shenzhen has become.

Next to ample new green space and a lychee orchard which has been preserved, the park features a series of pavilion-like buildings – a wedding chapel, a recycling and environmentally friendly behaviour training facility, as well as a tea house and welcome center and a library have been planned for the park.

The latter two have been designed by MLA+ and are almost-almost completed.

The tea house consists of a refurbished existing building with an addition that together frame an entrance court where visitors will be welcomed to the park. Next to an info stand it will house a tea bar, restaurant and reception areas.

The library hovers over the highest hill on site above the preserved lychee orchard. Accessed either on the ground or via a sky bridge, it provides panoramic views of the skyline of Shenzhen and onto Shenzhen Bay. The four level high building features wide cantilevering brise soleils shading floor to ceiling glass walls and big outdoor terraces provide ample opportunity to enjoy the unique location and its vista.
